One of the most exquisite of all insects, the butterfly, with its intricate coloring and delicate wings, graces almost every area of the world--from tropical rain forests to frigid mountaintops, and from thick woodlands to barren deserts. At least 20,000 species of butterflies have been identified, ranging in wingspan measurement from three-eighths of an inch to nearly a foot, and displaying every color of the rainbow.
